Terms of Reference

• Assistance to WHO in collecting and disseminating of the appropriate genetic information, including relevant educational material, to help WHO member countries in formulating their health strategies.
• Development and improvement of the methods for community screening in pregnancy for common genetic disorders to be applied in the framework of basic health care.
• Development of new, more ethically acceptable approaches for prenatal diagnosis of genetic disorders.
• Research into the development of noninvasive techniques for genetic evaluation of oocytes in the improvement of technologies for assisted reproduction.
• Training in genetic screening in pregnancy and prenatal diagnosis of congenital disorders.
• Technical assistance to developing countries in planning, organization and evaluation of health oriented services for community control of congenital disorders of public health importance.
